Every person requires a passport when travelling to Phuket. It's a legal requirement. Each country has various different visa requirements upon entering their country and for a multitude of different reasons. As a side note, all visa applications require at least six months validity in the passport from the date of entering the country.

For everyone else, and for those wishing to stay longer in the country for purposes of tourism or leisure should apply for a 60-day Tourist Visa from the Royal Thai Embassy or consulate in the country where you reside.
