How solid is the stand on your vise?

The stand is rock solid! And there is no play whatsoever in the post/pillar mechanism either, which is fantastic. I got this old vise several years ago, and at the time I snapped a few photos as I cleaned it up. This little project was never made into an Instructable, so I'm including the photos here just for fun.

I've got this Wilton that I found is to large to mount to my benchtop, so thought I would fabricate a stand for it. Thinking of using 2-3" pipe for the post, weld a plate to the top, and use some steel membere in a X pattern to make a base.
