Like Milna Beach, there is no shade protection, so you’ll need to plan accordingly. If you visit in the shoulder season, you are likely to have the beach almost entirely to yourself.

Much of the town is accessible by bike and as long as you’re paying attention, you should be able to navigate the cobblestone streets and dirt roads with ease.
Churches to see in Vis

Starting at the beginning of the bike route we provided, before you even get on your bicycles, climb the stairs just off Ulica Kresimira (the marina street).
Fort George above Vis
As we sailed into the bay of Vis, we saw Fort George up on the hill and knew that we had to visit, but we weren’t sure just how to. Thank goodness biking is one of the best things to do in Vis. Continuing on the bike route we have above (on on this Google Map link) you’ll ride up a winding road to the top of the Island of Vis.

The highest point of Vis Island? Hum Mountain. You can’t quite get to the very top, but you can drive a trail to a lookout for views over Komiža. The vista includes Velebit, Pelješac, Lastovo, Jabuka, and Kornati way off in the distance.

The so-called Flying Fortress is a plane that crashed and settled under water in November 1944 over Cape Polivalo. Vis Croatia is the tenth-largest Adriatic island and is home to many peaceful getaways. Vis was only opened to tourism in 1990 after being a military base for former Yugoslavia and a submarine base and hideaway for Marshall Tito during WW2!

Vis Town is the main town on Vis Island – easy enough to remember! I’ll start with things to do in Vis Town as many ferries stop here first.
Things to do in Komiža Vis
It took me three years to get here (and finally visited solely because of bad weather), but Komiža is now one of my favorite towns! Situated on a big bay at the other side of the island, it is a lovely and lively little down dotted with outdoor patio restaurants and shops.
When is the Best Time to Visit Vis?
As I mentioned in my post about things to know before you visit Croatia, the best time to visit Vis is in the ‘shoulder season,’ right before or after the peak months of July and August.
Where to Stay in Vis
I love quaint and unique boutique places to stay. Here are my options for both budget and splurge places to stay in Vis that are super cute! Unfortunately, there are no hostels but there are some budget hotels.
1. Stiniva Cove
A very small white pebble beach enclosed in an embrace by high cliffs and lapped by a crystalline sea. It can only be reached by swimming and rowing, or by descending a steep and tiring path. Please note that the descent on foot is dangerous and is not suitable for children and the elderly, it is recommended for visitors to wear appropriate shoes.

Budget Hotel
Apartments Bilić features air-conditioned studios and apartments. All units come with a balcony, a kitchenette, and a private bathroom. Grocery stores and restaurants can be found within a 5-minute walk from the property. Boat trips to nearby islands can also be arranged in the center.
Luxury Hotel
Located in Komiža, Villa Kala Komiža features a tennis court. The air-conditioned units are furnished with parquet floors and feature a private bathroom, a flat-screen TV, desk, a living room, an equipped kitchen, balcony and views over the garden. There are seating and a dining area in all units.
